MILITARY SERVICE
World War I
Private Fred Axer of Lancaster, Pennsylvania served with Company A of the 109th MG Battalion. He enlisted on July 26, 1917 and was honorably discharged on May 5, 1919.
Private Louis E. Houseal of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania enlisted with the U.S. Army at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on December 12, 1917. He mustered in at Columbus, Ohio and trained at Scott Field, Belleville, Illinois before being assigned overseas duty in England with Company D, 262nd Areo Squadron. While on duty at Shrewsbury Aviation Field he was killed instantly when struck by an airplane propeller. His death occurred on October 1, 1918. He was buried on the 4th of October in the Shawberry Parish Cemetery near Shrewsbury with the members of his squadron in attendance. In November of 1920 his body was returned to Pennsylvania and interred in the family plot in East Harrisburg Cemetery. He was the grandson of Ephraim H. Niess and Catherine Auxer.

Julian Stewart Auxier of Indiana served with the U.S. Army at Louisville, Kentucky. |
Private Benjamin Harrison Auxier of Kentucky enlisted with the U.S. Army on August 13, 1918 at Pikeville, Kentucky. He served as Private of Ordnance, Battery A, 10th Regiment, F.A.R.D. at Camp Jackson, South Carolina. He was discharged at Camp Jackson on November 20, 1918.
First Lieutenant John F. Auxier of Kentucky served with the U.S. Army until his discharge at Camp Hancock, Georgia on January 18, 1919.
Private Jean Leslie Auxier of Kentucky enlisted with the U.S. Army, Centre College S.A.T.C. on October 7, 1918 at Danville, Kentucky. He was discharged on December 20, 1918. Remarks on discharge papers read "Honest and Faithful Service."
Private Noah W. Auxier of West Virginia served with the U.S. Army in Company B, 116 Support TN, 41st Division.
