Samuel Martin Auxier
1846-1908
Samuel Martin Auxier was born in Johnson County, Kentucky. He left Kentucky with his parents, living first in Nebraska and later moving to Missouri. When he arrived in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma, he operated a small general store on his farm. All merchandise was brought into the settlement by freight wagons. The railroad ended 75 miles east at El Reno, Oklahoma. Eggs were 2 cents a dozen and hens were 25 cents each.
Sam is credited with creating the first Missouri Settlement post office which was located in his store. It was established on October 16, 1896 and named Auxier, Oklahoma.
