James Knox Polk Auxier

James Knox Polk Auxier was born in Johnson County, Kentucky on the day of J.K. Polk's inauguration and was promptly named after the new President. Polk was a proficient farmer and believed in using improved farming methods. His cattle and crops were shipped by river boat to markets in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a political analyst and for years regularly read two daily newspapers. Polk was a student of history and family genealogy. In Floyd County, Kentucky on January 7, 1868, he married Susannah Emaline Spradlin, the daughter of Jackson Spradlin and Margaret Fitzpatrick. They were the parents of eight children. |
1. Agnes Masolete Auxier who was a teacher, the author of The
Auxier Family History and a correspondent for The Big Sandy News. She was a
graduate of National Normal Institute at Lebanon, Ohio.
2. Anna Margaret Auxier who taught school for two years before attending a fashion and
design school in Cincinnati, Ohio. As an expert designer and dressmaker, she created many
trousseaus for the brides in the Big Sandy Valley.
3. Milton Samuel Auxier who married Anna Hope Music.
4. William Jamison Auxier who married Angeline Spradlin.
5. Marvin Bruce Auxier who died of diphtheria when only five months old.
6. Richard Faron Lee Auxier who married Levada Musick.
7. Sarah Ellen Auxier who died at age four.
8. Robert Chambers Auxier who loved nature and who's favorite pastime was reading.
