BENJAMIN AUXIER

Benjamin Harrison Auxier Jr., age 72, of Stanford, Kentucky died Tuesday, December 15, 1998, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was a self-employed piano and organ technician and a gunsmith. He was a member of the Danville Presbyterian Church. Ben was born on November 6, 1926 in Pikeville, Kentucky, the son of Benjamin Harrison Auxier Sr. and Roberta Gaines. He was the grandson of Samuel Buchanan Auxier and Levina Webb, the great grandson of John Brown Auxier and Mary Ann Tilsey Grayson and the 2nd great grandson of Samuel Auxier II and Rebecca Phillips.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Kelly McCubbins Auxier, who died in infancy. He is survived by his ex-wife, Margaret Edmonds Auxier, two sons, Benjamin Auxier III and George Daniel Auxier, a daughter, Roberta, one sister, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.


THERESA AUXIER

Theresa M. Hurt Auxier, age 48, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 1998 at her home in St. Joseph, Missouri. Memorial services were held on Thursday, December 12 at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Gower, Missouri. Private family interment was held at a later date in the Allen Cemetery at Gower.

She was born on February 12, 1950, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of Fred and Wilma Hurt. She attended schools in St. Joseph and was employed by Olympia Lanes, Quaker Oats and Armour and Company.

She married Chester LaVeene "Beno" Auxier in 1980. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1998. She is survived by two daughters, four stepchildren, 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.


MAC AUXIER

McArthur Auxier, age 55, of Burnwell, Kentucky passed away on December 1, 1998 . Services were held on December 4, 1998 at Gospel Revelation Tabernacle Church of God. Interment followed in the Thompson and Moore Family Cemetery. Rogers Funeral Home was in charge of services.

Mac was born in Pike County, Kentucky on October 15, 1943, the son of Claude Auxier and Euna Roberts. He was the grandson of Lafayette Auxier and Rhoda McCoy, the great grandson of Amanuel Auxier and the 2nd great grandson of John Auxier and Sarahan Murphy.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, a brother and five sisters.


RICHARD RECEVEUR

Richard Virgil Receveur, age 84, of North Fort Myers, Florida and Kolkaska, Michigan died on October 28, 1998 following a short illness. He was born March 13, 1914 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of lithographic engraver Clarence Joseph Receveur and Margaret Flora Spink. His great grandparents, Ferdinand Receveur and Josephine Barret, were early Indiana pioneers from D'Arcy, Canton L'isle, Doubs, France who emigrated during the 1840s to Floyd County, Indiana.

On September 15, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he married Christian Audrey Williams. Christine, a native of Flat Gap, Kentucky was the daughter of George Herbert Williams and Ora Ethel Auxier and the granddaughter of Isaac Lincoln Auxier. She preceded him in death in 1961. He married for the second time to Grace Marie Callanan who survives. He is also survived by a son and eight grandchildren.

Virgil and his wife, Christine, moved to Florida in 1971 from Indianapolis, Indiana following the downsizing of his employer, a Phillips Petroleum subsidiary. During World War II, he was a critical skill employee at Bridgeport Brass which produced ammunition shell casings for the war effort. In subsequent years, he was employed by Eli Lilly and Chevrolet. His childhood was spent in Louisville and Covington, Kentucky. The relocation to Indianapolis occurred during the depression years.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church on October 31, 1998 followed by interment at Lee Memorial Park next to his wife, Christine.


MARTHA TURNER

Martha Rice Turner, age 85, of Ohio, died Tuesday, September 29, 1998 at St Catherine's Center. Funeral services were held on Friday, October 2, at Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Courthouse, Ohio with Rev. James Blair officiating. Burial was in the Corchran Cemetery near New Martinsburg, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Henry Waston Turner, in 1935 and four brothers and seven sisters.

Martha was born on September 7, 1913 at Manila, Kentucky in Johnson County, the daughter of Wilson Rice and Sarah Jemima Auxier. She was the granddaughter of George Washington Auxier and Angeline Prater and the great granddaughter of Nathaniel Auxier and Hester Ann Mayo and John Prater Jr and Jemima Susannah Auxier.


BERYLN BROWN

Berlyn Brown, age 82, of Cynthiana, Kentucky died on September 13, 1998. Services were held on Thursday, September 18, 1998 at the Drake Funeral Home.

He was a retired employee of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and a veteran of World War II.

He was born on September 12, 1916 in White Oak, Kentucky. He married Elizabeth Goss and seven children were born of this union.

Berlyn was the son of John Franklin Brown and Nannie Lee Hall, the grandson of Harvey Burns Brown and Sarah Frances May, the great grandson of Samuel Washington Brown and Cynthia Ann Nickell, and the 2nd great grandson of James Wallace Brown and Nancy Auxier.


WILLIAM E. AUXIER

William Edward Auxier, age 73, died on Thursday, July 30, 1998 at a hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Services were held on Monday, August 3, 1998 at the Dorr Funeral Home, Falls City, Nebraska. Burial was in the Heim Cemetery at Dawson, Nebraska.

"Bill" graduated from Dawson High School and served with the U.S. Army. On March 1, 1952, he married Evelyn R. Gurber in Falls City, Nebraska. They retired from full scale farming in 1989. Bill was a member of the Grace Bible Fellowship Church in Stella, Nebraska and belonged to the Harvey Mann American Legion Post No 269 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9597 in Humboldt. Nebraska. He served on the Dawson School Board and was a active member of the Richardson County, Nebraska Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister. He is survived by his wife, one son, one daughter, a brother, a sister and a grandchild.

Bill was born on October 13, 1924 northeast of Dawson, Nebraska, the son of Edward Jennings Auxier and Wilhelmina Wilkinson. He was the grandson of Edward Everett Auxier and Mary Lucy Pritchard, the great grandson of Nathaniel Auxier and Hester Ann Mayo and the 2nd great grandson of Samuel Auxier and Rebecca Phillips.


JOHN STEPP

John Gregory Stepp, age 33, of Prestonsburg, Kentucky died suddenly on Wednesday, July 29, 1998. Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 2, 1998 at the Carter Funeral Home with Rev. George Love officiating. Burial was in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, Kentucky under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

John was born on September 28, 1964 in Anchorage, Alaska, the son of the late John Theodore "Ted" Stepp and Joyce Burchett Stepp. He was the grandson of J.G. Stepp and Norma Spears, the great grandson of John Walker Spears and Liza Ann McGuire, the 2nd great grandson of John Wesley Spears and Irene Hannah, the 3rd great grandson of James E. Hannah and Susannah C. Webb, the 4th great grandson of James Hannah and Francis Auxier.

John was a self-employed farmer, dealing with livestock.


EDITH GOBLE

Edith Preston Goble, age 84 died at her home in Wilmington, Delaware, on Monday, June 8, 1998. Memorial services were held on June 12, 1998 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at Brandywine, Kentucky.

Mrs. Goble, formerly of Paintsville, Kentucky was born at Auxier, Kentucky. She graduated from Van Lear High School and was a homemaker and a member of Jehovah's Witnesses Brandywine Congregation.

She is survived by her husband, two sons, one daughter, and six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Edith Ermine Preston Goble was born on November 11, 1913, the daughter of Bert Earl and Shirley Hopson Preston. She was the granddaughter of Samuel Newberry Hopson and Sarah Angelina Webb, the great granddaughter of Alexander Webb and Martha Wells, the 2nd great granddaughter of George Wells and Elizabeth Delong, the 3rd great granddaughter of George Delong and Mary Barbary Auxier.


GARY W. SEE

Gary W. See Sr, age 57, passed away in Acapulco, Mexico on April 23, 1998. He had fought a courageous battle against stomach cancer and was seriously ill for two weeks prior to his death. He requested to be buried in Mexico, his adopted country.

Gary was born in 1941 in British Columbia, Canada the son of Clinton See and Audrey Williams. He was the grandson of James See and Jane Pitcher, the great grandson of Francis Marion See and Mary Isabelle Jones, the 2nd great grandson of Benjamin See and Anna Powell and the 3rd great grandson of William See and Elizabeth Auxier.

As a young man Gary worked for his father's logging company. He became a top negotiator for Woodworker Union of Canada. After developing lung problems in his early 40's, he retired and bought the Silver Chalice restaurant in Hope, B.C. As his lung problems became worse, he went to Mexico for a vacation and liked the country so well that he decided to live there. Gary was a good natured man with a great sense of humor. He was always the life of the party. When asked how he managed to get along so well with everyone, his reply was "As far as I'm concerned there are no strangers in this world, just friends whom I haven't met yet."

Gary is survived by his wife, three sons, two brothers and a sister.


MARIE AUXIER

Marie Auxier, age 75, died April 17, 1998 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska as a result of a traffic accident on Tuesday April 14, 1998. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Elliott, Iowa on April 20, 1998. Burial was in the Lowman Cemetery in Cass County, Iowa.

She was born Marie Eleanor Stormer, on March 14, 1923, south of Atlantic, Iowa, . She married Clair Daniel Auxier on December 31, 1941 in Cumberland, Iowa. Clair was the son of Daniel Jeptha Auxier and Artie Lane, the grandson of Daniel Boone Auxier and Lucinda Linthicum, and the great grandson of Daniel Auxier and Mary Virgin. Clair Auxier preceded her in death on June 18, 1984.

Marie was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church, where she served as historian for the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Elliott Senior Citizens and was on the advisory council for the SW 8 Senior Services, Inc. She was also a member of the Silver Tops and Jug Club and a 4-H leader.

She is survived by two children, and four grandchildren.


RAYMOND AUXIER

Millard Raymond Auxier, age 93, of Mason City, Illinois died on Tuesday, March 16, 1998 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, Illinois. Cremation rites were accorded. Grave side services were held on Saturday, March 21, 1998 at Mason City Cemetery with The Rev. Kathy Krstulovich officiating.

Raymond was born on March 7, 1905 in Mason City, Illinois to John Wesley Auxier and Cecelia E. Hall. He was the grandson of Kinzie M. Auxier and Sarah Ann Wiggins, the great grandson of Daniel Auxier and Mary Virgin and the great grandson of Samuel Auxier and Sarah Brown.

Raymond bought and operated the first combine in Mason County, Illinois in 1928 and operated a feed grinder from 1931 until the early 1940's. He began an auto sales business in the mid 1940's and worked for a Kaiser-Frazer dealership. He retired in 1970 from R.G. LeTourneau and the auto sales business in 1987.

On August 15, 1925, Raymond married Helen May Frazer in Havana, Illinois. She died on August 15, 1987. He was preceded in death by his son, Millard Raymond Auxier Jr.; two sisters, Rachel Faye Auxier Zimmerman, Clara Lenora Auxier Stenbinger; and a brother, Stanton Hoy Auxier.

He is survived by a daughter, two granddaughters, 10 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.


FLORENCE GOBLE

Florence Delaney Goble, age 95, died Saturday, March 28, 1998 at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Prestonsburg, Kentucky following an extended illness. Services were held on April 1, 1998 at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Music officiating. She was interred in the Goble Cemetery on Corn Fork, Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

She was born December 12, 1902 in Floyd County, Kentucky the daughter of the late Isaac T. Goble and Mary Wells. She was the granddaughter of Isaac Goble and Francis E. Hannah, and Charles M. Wells and Susannah Dingus. She was the great granddaughter of Samuel J. Hannah and Frances A. Auxier and the 2nd great granddaughter of Samuel Auxier I and Sarah Brown.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Goble and a son James "Todger" Goble. She is survived by two sons, three daughters, Thirty grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren and 40 great great grandchildren.


PAUL RICE

Paul Rice, age 64, died on Thursday, March 19, 1998 at the Spring Hill Regional Hospital in Spring Hill, Florida. Graveside services were held on Monday, March 23, 1998 at the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery at Staffordsville, Kentucky with Dick Vanhoose officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home.

Paul a retiree of General Motors, was born on August 12, 1933 in Johnson County. He was the son of William Dewey Rice and Ollie Conley, the grandson of Charley Rice and Nancy Webb, the great grandson of William Rice and Mary Ann Auxier and the great great grandson of Nathaniel Auxier and Constance Beck.


MARIE BROBST AUXER

Marie Brobst Auxer, age 85, wife of the late F. Washington Auxer, died Tuesday March 2, 1998 at her niece's home in East Coventry, Pennsylvania. Born in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Katie Reppert Brobst. She lived most of her life in the Pottstown, Pennsylvania area and worked as a nurse for 40 years, working at various hospitals and nursing homes until her retirement. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in South Pottstown, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening.

She was preceded in death by three sisters; Grace Kehl, Anna Emore and Iva Stofflet; and two brothers; Ray and Wayne Brobst.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 5, 1998 at the Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum in Pottstown, with the Rev. Susan Folks officiating. Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park.


PAUL HATCHER WELLS

Paul Hatcher Wells, age 61, of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, died Monday, February 16, 1998, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Kentucky. Funeral services were Thursday, February 19, 1998, at the Fern Creek Funeral Home in Louisville, with Evangelist Rod Buckson officiating. Burial was in the Wells Family Cemetery at Auxier, Kentucky under the direction of Floyd Funeral Home.

Paul was a retired manager at General Electric Company and a member of the Louisville Trinity Church. He was born at Auxier, Kentucky on April 23, 1936, the son of Darwin Callahan Wells and Onda Lee Curnutte Wells. He was the grandson of Sherman Wells and Berta Gravely Hatcher and the great grandson of William Lee Hatcher and Lucy Agnes Auxier.


ALKA MAYO AUXIER STAPLETON

Alka Mayo Auxier Stapleton, age 93, of Paintsville, Kentucky, died Tuesday, February 10, 1998 at Highlands Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held on February 13 at Jones-Preston Funeral Home with Paul Dean Meade officiating. Burial was in the Johnson County Memorial Cemetery.

She was born on August 16, 1904 in Manila, Kentucky, the daughter of George Garfield Auxier and Lula Salyers Auxier. She was the granddaughter of George Washington Auxier and Angeline Prater and the great grand- daughter of Nathaniel Auxier and Hester Ann Mayo Auxier.

On March 19, 1924, she married Dow Stapleton who preceded her in death on November 25, 1974. She was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Myrtle Angeline Auxier, a brother, John Cecil Auxier and a sister, Garnet Auxier Cooper.

She is survived by two sons, two daughters, one brother, four sisters, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, four great grandchildren.


REV. RICK G. AUXIER

The Rev. Rick G. Auxier, 46, died, Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois. The Rev. Auxier was born April 30, 1951, in McLeansboro, Illinois to the Rev. Eldon Eugene and Daphne (Tucker) Auxier. He married Linda Lemay June 2, 1973 in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

The Rev. Auxier had been pastor at Herrin First Baptist Church in Herrin, Illinois since July 1997. He also pastored at the Canaan Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri, and the First Baptist Church in Zeigler, Illinois. Other pastorates included Emmanuel Baptist Church, Marion, Kentucky, Streator Baptist Chapel, Streator, Illinois, Gateway Baptist Church, Millstadt, Illinois and Frisco Baptist Church, Ewing, Illinois. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce, all in Herrin, Illinois. He was a graduate of SIU-Edwardsville, Illinois with a bachelor of science degree. He received his masters of religious education from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri.

Survivors include his children, the Rev. Phil Auxier, Holly Auxier and Clint Auxier; one sister and one brother-in-law, Diane and Larry Zillages two nieces and their husbands, Dawn and Jeremy Hamson, and Jodi and Ryan Pressgrove, and his father-in- law and mother-in-law, the Rev. Everett and Peggy Lemay. He was proceeded in death by one brother, Roger Auxier.


MARY KATHERINE WALKER RODEHORST

Kay Walker Rodehorst, age 68, passed away January 3, 1998 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. She had been flown from Columbus, Nebraska two days earlier after suffering a heart attack and stroke. Memorial services were held in Columbus, Nebraska on January 9, 1998.

Kay worked for many years in cosmetology and business. She enjoyed her pets, nature, and good food.

She was the daughter of Ralph Walker and Mildred Auxier, the granddaughter of Samuel Nathaniel Auxier and Rosa B. Stapleton and the great granddaughter of George Washington Auxier and Angeline Prater.


CHESTER L. AUXIER

Chester LaVeene "Beno" Auxier, age 64, died Tuesday, January 13, 1998 in Heartland Regional Hospital East in St. Joseph, Missouri. Services were held on Friday, January 16, 1998 at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home with burial in the Allen Cemetery at Grower, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by a daughter who died of Leukemia at age four.

After military service, Beno returned to his home and worked at a local meat packing house until it closed. He was well known for his coon hounds and his home made wine. He was a good natured man, hospitable and always helped someone in need. His absence in this world will be felt by all who knew him.

Chester was the son of Floyd Auxier and Hazel Mitchell Auxier, the grandson of George Curtis Auxier and Annie McQueen Auxier and the great grandson of George Washington Auxier and Mary Ann Barnes Auxier.


RAY JUNIOR AUXIER

Ray Junior Auxier, age 62, of Paintsville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, January 5, 1998 at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Kentucky.

He was born on September 27, 1935, in Johnson County, Kentucky, the son of Richard Hereford Auxier and Sara Stapleton Auxier. He was the grandson of Tobe Auxier, the great grandson of Joseph Decab Auxier and the great great grandson of Enoch Auxier.

Services were held in the Highland Church of Christ on January 8, 1998 with interment in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Staffordsville, Kentucky.


PAUL RICHMOND

Paul Richmond, age 68, of Van Lear, Kentucky died in his home on January 12, 1998. Services were held at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville, Kentucky on January 14, 1998 with interment in the Richmond Cemetery in Van Lear, Kentucky.

He was born February 17, 1929, in Van Lear, Kentucky, the son of Otis Richmond and Bessie Delong Richmond. He was the grandson of Elijah Brown Richmond and Zora Webb Richmond, the great grandson of John Richmond and Susan Angeline Auxier Richmond and the 2nd great grandson of Samuel Auxier and Agnes Wells Auxier.
