Kentucky

Private Henry Jackson Roberson of Magoffin County, Kentucky enlisted May 11, 1863 at Salyersville, Kentucky. He served with Company B of the 10th Kentucky Cavalry CSA. He was wounded in the leg and foot at Salyersville on August 1, 1864. He was captured by Union forces and taken to a POW camp. To obtain his release, his neighbors agreed to go post bond for him. Private Roberson's injuries were completely disabling and he could no longer work his farm. He moved his family to Morgan County, Kentucky where he bought a mill which his sons could run with his supervision. Henry Jackson Roberson was the husband of Frances E. Auxier. She was the daughter of Nathaniel Auxier and Constance Beck.

Robert S. Friend of Floyd County, Kentucky enlisted at Prestonsburg, Kentucky on January 24, 1863. He served with Company D of the 10th Kentucky Cavalry. After the war he was a lawyer in Floyd County, Kentucky. In 1878 he married Araminta Auxier, daughter of Nathaniel Auxier and Hester Ann Mayo.

John M. Auxier of Lawrence County, Kentucky enlisted in October of 1861 and was mustered in on December 1, 1862. He served with Company C, 5th Kentucky Infantry. He was an associate member of Company G, member of Field's Company Kentucky Partisan Rangers, from Carter County, Kentucky. He was captured on October 11, 1863 in Greenup County, Kentucky. He was held in the military prison at Rock Island, Illinois. John convinced his captors that he was no longer in favor of the rebellion and wished to be loyal to the Union. He was sworn into the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 2nd or 3rd Regiment, U.S. "Galvanized Yankees." John was the son of Andrew Jackson Auxier and Nancy Nolon.

James Knox Polk Auxier of Johnson County, Kentucky enlisted on December 29, 1861 for 12 months of service with Company E of the 5th Kentucky Infantry at Camp Hager in Johnson County. He fought in the battles of Middle Creek, Kentucky and Princeton, West Virginia. He mustered out of service on October 20, 1862 at Hazel Green, Kentucky. He was the son of Samuel Auxier II and Agnes Wells. (submitted by John B. Wells III)

Samuel Auxier III of Johnson County, Kentucky enlisted in Company E of the 5th Kentucky Infantry on December 29, 1861 at Camp Hager in Johnson County, Kentucky for 12 months of service. He fought in the Battle of Middle Creek, but was discharged for unknown reasons at Camp Martin in Floyd County, Kentucky on January 16, 1862. He reenlisted and was on duty June 30, 1862. He probably mustered out at Hazel Green, Kentucky on October 20, 1862. He was the son of Samuel Auxier II and Rebecca Phillips. (submitted by John B. Wells III)

Texas

Private Samuel Oxsheer of Nacogdoches County, Texas served in Captain Garrison's Company, of Moore's Regiment, 1st Texas Mounted Volunteers. He died of measles in Arkansas. He was the son of George Oxsheer and Eliza Kirley.

Private Daniel Oxsheer of Nacogdoches County, Texas served in the 1st Texas Mounted Volunteers. He died during the battle on the Chattahoochie River, in Georgia. He was the son of George Oxsheer and Eliza Kirey.

Private William Elmore Oxsheer of Nacogdoches County Texas served with Company H, 4th Regiment Mounted Volunteers. He was the son of George Oxsheer and Jane Walker.

Private William Crisman Sutphen of Nacogdoches County, Texas served in Company H, Moore's Reigment, 17th Dismounted Cavalry. He died of measles, June 23, 1862, while on duty at Little Rock Arkansas. He was the husband of Sarah Wilson Oxsheer.

Private Samuel Crisman Sutphen, of Nacogdoches County, Texas served with Company H, 4th Texas Cavalry, 4th Regiment Mounted Volunteers, 1st Regiment Silbey's Brigade, later transfered to Compnay G. 12th Texas Infantry. Young's Regiment (also know as 8th Texas Infantry). He enlisted January 13, 1862 at Camp Hebert, near Hempstead, Texas and was discharged in May 1865. He participated in the battles at Young's Point, on June 7, 1863, the Red River Campaign, March 10, through May 22, 1864, The Camden Expedition, March 23, through May 3, 1864. He was at Mansfield on April 8, 1864, Pleasant Hill on April 9, 1864 and Jenkins Ferry on April 30, 1864. He was the husband of Saphronia Ann Oxsheer.

Private Oscar Broyles, of Texas served with Company H, 4th Regiment Texas Calvary. He was the husand of Jane Oxsheer.

 

West Virginia

Private Lorenzo D. Oxier of Kanawha County, West Virginia enlisted, at age 17, on February 22, 1864 at Boone County, Virginia. He served with Company I of the 22nd Virginia Infantry. He was wounded in action on June 3, 1864 at Cold Harbor, Virginia. On August 2, 1864 he was hospitalized for rheumatism at Winchester, Virginia. He was captured at Winchester, Virginia on September 19, 1864 and confined at Point Lookout, Maryland. He took the oath of allegiance at Point Lookout Prison on May 2, 1865 and was released. Lerenzo was the son of Simeon Oxier and Sabray Estep.
