Andrew Jackson Webb
1875-1929

Andrew Jackson Webb was nicknamed "Buddy." He raised ferets and sold them. They were used to bring rabbits out of their holes. The ferret's teeth were cut, so they couldn't kill the rabbits. Buddy's young nephew Wilbur

Timber was a big industry in the early 1900's. Buddy along with his father and James Spradlin worked on river logging. The logs came down John's creek into the Big Sandy River. They would back up on the creek, then when they hit the river, they would go everywhere. The logs were stamped with the timber companies name and the company would pay so much per log for the ones that were retreived. The logers would catch the logs and make a raft out of them and float them on down the river. When night came, the rafts would be tired to the shore and the crew would eat thier supper and breakfast at the nearest house for a small fee. Buddy's mother and his sister Martha cooked for the loggers, as did most of the houses on the river.
